Research and Writing

This blog is written as a task assigned by Prakruti ma'am. In this blog there is discussion on 'Research and Writing'. There are few questioned that a student would try to answer.

Que:

In your opinion, should research always strive to achieve something new and creative or is it ok to pursue an existing direction and arrive at newer understanding of the same? In which one of these two categories would you classify the topic that you have chosen for your dissertation?

Ans.

Personally I believe that it is not compulsory to in the research that should be always strive to something new and creative. One can also pursue in an existing direction and arrive at a newer understanding of the same. Something new can also be achieved in the research but that is not the only compulsory step of the same.

My topic of the dissertation is “The philosophy of Absurdity: Identity, Alienation and Human Condition in Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Camus’ ‘The Stranger’. If we look at the topic there is so much research work that has been done. So that is the existing field but I am approaching in a newer way. That is to identify the themes that are common and there are comparative studies of the both works.

Here is the paraphrase version of the given paragraph in G-classroom instruction.

“It’s unhelpful to separate any artistic form or movement from its influences and related works. When critics isolate practices from the contexts that shaped them, they risk developing a narrow perspective. While this may seem obvious, it’s important to revisit such basic truths, especially during periods of change. When something "new" appears, many of us tend to separate it from the contexts that significantly contribute to its creation. For example, how can we understand electronic literature without considering its connections to traditional literature, games, and sensory experiences? How can we critically examine anything without these reference points? While our capacity to explore everything may be limited, the best approach is to learn from the past, build on existing foundations, and focus on the elements we believe deserve more attention.”

Que:

Is the paraphrase approximately the same length as the original passage?

Ans.

Yes the paraphrase paragraph has the same length as the original passage.

Que.

Has any part of the passage been copied word for word?

Ans.

Yes, few things are given the same, for example the double inverted comma word “new” is copied exactly the same. The term electronic literature is the same. There are other few words that have the major ideas that the passage is about are the same.

Que.

Does the paraphrase have the same meaning as the passage?

Ans.

Yes, the paraphrase has the same meaning as the passage.

Que.

What is the full form of CIS? Discuss some of the types of searches which can be employed to search for sources in a library equipped with CIS.

Ans.

The full form of CIS is the Central Information System, in which students or researchers can search the library through various searches.

Types of Searches in a Library Equipped with CIS

  1. Library Catalog

    • Search the library's holdings, including:

      • Books

      • Periodicals

      • Electronic sources

      • Audiovisual materials

  2. Bibliographic Databases

    • Access specialized bibliographic databases for scholarly research, such as:

      • MLA International Bibliography

      • Science Direct

  3. Electronic Resources

    • Explore additional electronic resources provided by the library:

      • Reference works such as encyclopedias and dictionaries

      • Full-text databases including journal articles and e-books

      • Recommended websites curated and linked by the library

  4. Library Information

    • Locate general information about the library, including:

      • Its physical location

      • Hours of operation

      • Policies and guidelines

This structure ensures clarity by categorizing searches into distinct, user-friendly sections based on the type of resource or information sought.
